Volunteer DBS Support Officer


Key Responsibilities:

Purpose of the Role:
To support volunteers in completing their DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) checks by providing clear guidance, verifying identification documents, and ensuring all processes are carried out accurately, securely, and in line with GDPR and government guidelines.

  • Explain the DBS application process to volunteers in an accessible and supportive way.
  • Verify volunteers’ identification documents, either in person or online, depending on access needs.
  • Complete the relevant sections of DBS forms to confirm ID verification and arrange for forms to be posted to volunteers and forwarded to the processing company.
  • Maintain accurate, confidential records of all DBS checks in line with GDPR requirements.
  • Liaise with the DBS processing company to track applications and resolve any queries.
  • Keep up to date with changes in DBS and government safeguarding guidelines to ensure compliance.
  • Ensure timely communication and a supportive experience for volunteers throughout the process.

Skills and Attributes:

  • Strong organisational and record-keeping skills.
  • Clear communication and ability to explain processes simply.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Understanding of GDPR and safeguarding principles (training can be provided).
  • Ability to work flexibly to accommodate volunteers’ access needs.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), WhatsApp, and video meeting platforms such as Microsoft Teams.

Hours:

  • Approximately 15 hours per month (flexible).
